I used to dread Valentine’s Day. For much of my life I felt out of the loop and disconnected from the magic of romantic love, so when V-day rolled around it just seemed to underline and highlight that sense of lack. I was always good at being the “friend” while hanging with my guy friends, and genuinely supporting and celebrating my girlfriends with their adventures in dating and partnership, but the magic didn’t come to me until later in life.
My story of romantic love goes something like this:
Lots of wallflower stories (about how OTHERS were worthy of being beautiful, chosen, and adored). . .
Continuous learning about who I really was (thank goodness I’ve always been a bit of a “welcome mat for growth”). . .
A first marriage rooted in friendship mixed with boatloads of gritty growth. . .
A “brutiful” divorce (yes, even with the best intentions divorce is BOTH beautiful and brutal at times). . .
Some very illuminating and fun dating adventures in my 30s (PSA: dating is WAY more fun when you’re empowered by knowing who you are and aren’t attached to those old stories any longer). . .
Aaaaaaaand eventually a magically manifested divine partnership with the most loving and aligned partner I could have imagined (and actually I DID imagine it, as proven by my journal entries before meeting him).
So regardless of where you are in your journey of romantic love or partnership, I hope that this week of sharing and celebrating my story inspires you to either lean into gratitude for what you’ve got cooking in the love department (yay love!) OR serves to keep hope alive for you if you haven’t yet found the flavor of partnership you desire (because it’s never too late to invite that in!) Comparison doesn’t really serve anyone – it’s a dream squasher, but when we can be genuinely inspired by others, it often helps us to raise our standards and shift our beliefs around what is possible. And let me tell you, BIG JUICY ROMANTIC LOVE IS POSSIBLE!!!
I look forward to sharing some of the magic with you this week!
Happy Love Week, beautiful people!
